ICF Returns Saturday; Adds Women’s Division

icf 9Intense Cage Fighting is back for their first ever February card as it starts full bore into 2014.

Their 11th event will take place Saturday at the Four Season Arena in Great Falls, MT.

The card will break new ground with the addition of a female division.  Local boxer turned MMA fighter Ariel Beck will take on Washington’s Yvonne Ameada in a flyweight bout.

The main event will feature hometown fighter Chris Sowell taking on Portland’s Everette Walker.

We talked to ICF President Cory Smith about the card and his expectations for 2014.

MTCage: This has been a fast turnaround for this card. How did this February card come about?

Cory Smith: The last 3 years we have had a show in mid march, but do to all the venues being booked we decided we wanted to do something in February and April, a smaller show in feb to get some new talent looked at, and then a huge show in April.

MTCage: This is the first time you will have a female match in the ICF cage. What is it like to start the division and add females to the ICF roster?

Smith:  The fans have wanted it forever, and we always try but injurys haven’t aloud it, I am so stoked to add the women’s division, we have some announcements to make Saturday that will add to our future with the womens division.

MTC: Main event will feature local Chris Sowell taking on Portland’s Everette Walker. This is a step up for Sowell….

C.S.:  Chris Sowell is an animal, this guy always shows up to compete, always in shape, ready to take care of business. Everette will be a good test for Chris, talking to Everette, he is very confident, but has been outta the cage for a few years, so it makes to be a good fight I think. I am excited to finally have Chris on the card, he is a great name and talent coming from Montana, we look forward to having him on more cards in the future.

MTC: With the early card, are we expecting ICF to expand to more than 4 shows this year?

C.S.: Yes, we will have 5-6 shows in 2014, maybe more, we are looking to venture out to other cities, starting with teaming up with Fusion Fight League and Occtane Addictions for Back Flips and Beat Downs in Billings April 5th, then back to Great Falls for April 12th for my birthday show that will be huge huge! Gotta take it one show at a time! We are looking into other forms of entertainment as well, everything from concerts to motocross stuff.

MTC:  Anything you’d like to add?

C.S.:  Thank you to everyone that has supported us, the sponsors, my investors, and the athletes. Hope to continue our success in 2014.
